What interests me about Douglas fir is the incredible structure of the wood. The monochrome coloring abstracts the materiality, leaves room for interpretation and is not immediately readable, but rather invites exploration. The polished and waxed hard parts of the annual rings only highlight the structure through the play of light, which alternates between rough and smooth.
